Clare Wood trained in fine art with portrait artist John Frederick Murray, at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Mr. Murray's inspired teaching, based on Frank Riley's methods, incorporates the techniques and knowledge of the Old Masters.
Clare has a B.F.A. in painting, and a B.A. in French from the University of Connecticut, graduating magna cum laude, as a Phi Beta Kappa.
She also studied for a year at the University of Rouen in France.
Clare's art has been exhibited in juried shows in galleries and museums in New York, Pennsylvania and Japan.
Before focusing on fine art portraiture, Clare worked as an illustrator in New York City for a wide range of clients, from advertising to corporate and publishing. Her artwork appeared in AT&T ads in the program guides for the Super Bowl and the World Series, as book covers for the classics Little Women and The Little Princess, and in People magazine and the New York Times.
